Ending Child Marriage: A Programme for Accelerating Global Action, Phase III

– Work against child marriage continues in 12 countries

21% of girls worldwide are married as children, effectively robbing them of their childhood and opportunities for education. The pandemic has increased the number of child marriages by approximately 10 million.

In the first phases of the project (2016–2024), 14 million girls were reached and 75 million people were reached through communication.

We are now continuing to support this global programme to protect and empower girls, with the ultimate goal of ending child marriage altogether.

Ending child marriage is a Zonta International Signature Project, i.e. a project that particularly well represents our organisation and its values.

The 12 target countries for the project are: Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Yemen and Zambia. We are implementing the project in collaboration with UNFPA and UNICEF.
